Rules

The rules

Few and concrete. Rust is a game where robbing and betraying each other is part of playing: these rules do not stop that, they only cover what ruins the game for other people.

What is allowed

Practically everything the game permits: killing on sight, stealing, levelling a base, betraying an ally, holding a zone. There are no protected areas and no rule against PvP.

What gets you removed

  1. External programs — aimbot, wallhack, speedhack, macros that play for you. The server has its own checks, and what they miss shows in how someone moves anyway.
  2. Abusing game defects — walking through walls, building inside rock, duplicating items. If you find something that clearly was not intended, report it instead of using it.
  3. Several accounts for one person — one account each. Making a second one to get around a ban or to stockpile resources is not allowed.
  4. Insults and harassment — trash talk is part of the game, insults about someone’s origin, religion, orientation or disability are not. There is no room for discussion on this one.
  5. Attacks on the server — trying to flood, disrupt or break into the infrastructure. Besides removal, that is a crime.

Wipes

The world is reset when it needs to be — when the map is too built up, or when an update requires it. Wipes are announced in advance and never happen without warning. Your account and your game identity survive a wipe: you lose your base and inventory, not your character.

Your account

Your game identity is tied to your account, not to a file on disk. In practice: you switch computers and find everything where it was, and nobody else can log in as your character just by knowing your name.

The consequence is that your password is what protects your character. If you lose it you can reset it from the recovery page, which is why the address you sign up with has to be one you can still read.

Reporting a problem

If you suspect somebody is cheating, or you find an exploitable defect, write to whoever runs the server with your SteamID (your profile), when it happened and what you saw. A report with a precise time can be checked in the logs; a vague one cannot.

How they are applied

There is no tribunal. Removals are decided by whoever runs the server, based on what the logs show, and they can be discussed in writing. A removed account is not deleted: it is suspended, so if the removal turns out to be wrong nothing is lost.

What this server is not

A commercial project. It is not affiliated with Facepunch Studios, it runs on an instance paid for by whoever maintains it, and it stays up as long as keeping it up makes sense. The whole game is playable without paying anything.

One thing can be paid for, and it is fair to say plainly what it is: three euros once unlock three kits — /kitpremium, /kithome and /kitstarter, described on the supporters page. They are a shortcut and nothing else: every item in them is craftable by anybody, and they buy no exception to a single line above. A supporter who cheats is removed like anyone else, and the payment is not an argument in that conversation.
